At Step Up Family Services, we are proud to recognize and thank Step Forward Family Network for organizing a meaningful fundraiser dedicated to supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals in our communities. It was great to partner with, celebrate with , and fundraise with such a great organization to help our clients and community at large. A portion of our Somerset Patriots ticket purchases went towards a wonderful initiative.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, supporters, and community partners, the funds raised will help provide sensory kits to local police departments, equipping first responders with tools that can make a significant difference when interacting with individuals experiencing sensory overload, anxiety, emotional distress, or behavioral crises.
For many autistic and neurodivergent individuals, unexpected situations involving emergency responders can be overwhelming. Sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, and heightened anxiety can sometimes make these encounters difficult for both the individual and responding officers. Sensory kits help bridge that gap by providing calming tools such as noise-reducing headphones, fidget items, visual supports, and other sensory resources designed to promote regulation and communication during high-stress situations.
As an organization dedicated to providing high-quality Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, behavioral support, and family-centered care, Step Up Family Services understands the importance of creating environments where individuals with autism can feel safe, understood, and supported. Initiatives like this fundraiser extend that mission beyond the clinic walls and into the broader community.
The impact of these sensory kits reaches far beyond a single interaction. By helping first responders better support autistic and neurodivergent individuals, we are fostering greater awareness, inclusion, and understanding throughout our communities.
